Tajemniczy ogród. The secret garden.

Jest takie miejsce pomiędzy Collegium Maius a Collegium Minus, gdzie możemy schować się przed gwarem Starego Miasta. To stary Ogród Profesorski, tajemniczy kawałek zieleni pamiętający najdawniejsze dzieje Uniwersytetu. Choć dziś niewielki, dawniej rozciągał się od Collegium Maius aż do murów miejskich. 

ENG: There's a place between Collegium Maius and Collegium Minus, where we can hide from the noise of the Old Town. This is the old Professor's Garden, a secret part of greenery, remembering the oldest times of the University. Although today it's small, in the past it reached the city walls.

Pierwsze wzmianki o ogrodzie pochodzą z 1467 roku, kiedy spełniał on funkcje użytkowe. Był wówczas źródłem warzyw i owoców na profesorskie stoły. Z czasem pojawiła się tu hodowla drobiu, a także studenckie latryny!

The first records of the garden come from 1467, when it had usable functions. It was then the source of fruit and vegetables for the professor's tables. Later the chicken breeding appeared and also the students' latrines!

Ogród popadł w zaniedbanie w XVIII wieku, pozbawiony opieki profesorów. W XIX wieku służył m.in. jako miejsce składowania materiałów budowlanych w trakcie restauracji Collegium Maius. Dopiero pod koniec owego wieku zaprowadzono tu hodowlę ok. 300 gatunków roślin. Ogród podupadł ponownie w trakcie budowy Collegium Witkowskiego i dopiero w latach 2008-2010 zrekonstruowano go. 

In 18 c. the garden was in a poor condition, lacking the professors' care. In 19 c. it served as eg. the place for construction materials during the renovation of Collegium Maius. Then in the end of that century a plantation of about 300 spieces started. The garden deteriorated again during the construction of Collegium Witkowskiego and only in 2008-2010 it was reconstructed.

12 maja 2010 otworzono ogród dla zwiedzających, zadbano o odpowiednią ilość ławek, posadzono rośliny.  Na terenie ogrodu możemy oglądać rzeźby z wizerunkami profesorów oraz te najnowsze, postawione we wtorek, autorstwa Karola Badyny przedstawiające sławnych Polaków. Poza tym w ogrodzie stoją nowoczesne instalacje edukacyjne, które, niestety, podczas mojej wtorkowej wizyty w ogrodzie nie działały.

On May 12, 2010, the garden was opened for visitors, there are enough benches and many plants. We can see there the sculptures showing the images of professors and the newest, made by Karol Badyna, showing the famous Poles. there are also modern educational instalations, but unfortunately, during my Tuesday visit, they weren't working.

Do ogrodu możemy dostać się przez bramę od strony ul. Jagiellońskiej i długą sień z dziedzińca Collegium Maius.

We can get to the garden through the gate from Jagiellońska st. and the long hall from Collegium Maius.
